Skills and People
The most important resource and driving force behind Finmeccanica is its people. We have more than 12,000 employees in the U.S., and are the second largest overseas investor in the U.S. defense market. Our 2008 acquisition of DRS Technologies significantly increased our U.S. presence and financial investment. DRS is a leading supplier of integrated products, services and support for military forces, intelligence agencies worldwide. The company has been recognized as one of the fastest growing defense technology companies in the world.
Finmeccanica prides itself on recruiting the very best people, and several of our operating companies offer flourishing graduate and internship opportunities to train a new generation of leaders. In fact, the Provost of Stanford University, John Etchemendy, and the Chairman and CEO of Finmeccanica, Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, met on December 6, 2010 at Stanford University to celebrate the establishment of the Finmeccanica Professorship and the appointment of the first Finmeccanica Professor. Earlier this year, Dr. Friedrich B. Prinz was selected as the first Finmeccanica Professor. Dr. Prinz is Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and of Mechanical Engineering.
Finmeccanica established the “Finmeccanica Faculty Scholar Fund” at MIT, Carnegie Mellon and Stanford University in 1989. In February 2010, Finmeccanica officially expanded the Stanford fund into an Endowed Professorship, the highest honor that a faculty member can receive.
By instilling the importance of engineering in younger generations, we nurture the talent of tomorrow and help guarantee our future business prosperity.
