Ansaldo STS partners with the American Red Cross and Local Animal Shelters on Community Initiatives
In 2012, Ansaldo STS employees voiced their desire to increase their engagement with community outreach programs. As such, numerous initiatives were organized throughout the year, most recently a partnership with the American Red Cross to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Along the east coast, many friends, families, coworkers, and customers were impacted by this tragedy, so during the month of November, Ansaldo STS employees sponsored a fundraising initiative titled “Penny Wars for Eastern Shores” to raise money to aide in the recovery of the areas hardest hit by the storm. Each of the three floors of Ansaldo STS’ Pittsburgh, PA facility competed to raise money with pennies and other spare change or small denominations that employees had on hand.
Just through donating spare change, Ansaldo STS employees raised a significant dollar amount for the America Red Cross disaster relief efforts.
In addition, this September, Ansaldo STS celebrated Pennsylvania’s 5th Annual Week for the Animals with a Pet Appreciation Fundraiser at its Pittsburgh facility that benefited three local animal rescues: the Animal Rescue League of Western PA, Animal Friends and the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society.
Ansaldo STS employees organized a week long pet supply drive, collecting a total of 20 boxes of pet supplies. Monetary donations were also collected and a company-wide bake sale helped raise additional funding. Ansaldo STS matched 100% of the donations.
The week concluded with a Meet the Animals event at Ansaldo STS where adoptable animals from the local rescues were showcased. Ansaldo STS covered the adoption fees for the 14 animals that were generously adopted by employees and their families.
“We were thrilled with the response from the Ansaldo STS employees hosting their first adoption event and fundraiser,” said Gretchen Fieser, Director of PR and Business Relations with the Western Pennsylvania Human Society. “The weather was perfect; the staff was well organized and very welcoming. Several pets found new homes that day. Getting animals into permanent loving homes offsite is very important. Adoption saves lives.”
