Telespazio
Telespazio, a joint venture between Finmeccanica (67%) and Thales (33%), is one of the world’s leading players in satellite services. The company, headquartered in Rome, Italy, employs approximately 2500 people. It relies on an international network of space centers and teleports and operates worldwide through many subsidiaries, with activities ranging from the design and development of space systems to the management of launch services and in orbit satellite control; from Earth observation services, integrated communication, satellite navigation and localization, to scientific programs. The Company’s experience is also drawn from the management of space infrastructure - including the Fucino Space Centre, the world’s largest civilian teleport - as well as from its involvement in major space programs, including: Galileo, EGNOS, Copernicus, COSMO-SkyMed, SICRAL and Göktürk. Telespazio is present in North America with Network and Connectivity and Geoinformation activities, providing its products and services to high-end customer segments such as Defense, Government and the Oil & Gas sector. In the Defense segment, Telespazio, through its local partners, provides support to troops deployed in war theaters with a large range of satellite communications which span from Fixed Satellite Services to Mobile Satellite Services. Moreover, its customers can benefit from Telespazio’s networks of teleports for uplink and downlink services together with the experience of a long-standing company in the satellite industry.
Besides telecommunications, Telespazio also provides to the Defense and Government segments remote sensing data and satellite access facilities. Telespazio customers can benefit from the uniqueness of COSMO-SkyMed, the most advanced SAR constellation for remote sensing activities.
Based on SAR data, Telespazio also provides near real-time services, mainly to the Oil & Gas segment, which help the customer detect and control oil spills in the sea and identify the vessels involved in such events.
